Game Design Schools: How Helpful They Are to Mould Your Career

Game design schools prepare students for booming gaming industry.  Worldwide the game industry is worth about $41.9 billion.  Analysts predict that video game industry will grow at a phenomenal rate and will reach $91 billion by 2015.  A staggering 69% people of American households play video and computer games.  Interestingly, in the United States 38% of the game players are women.  With more households getting connected to broadband and more companies focusing on developing online gaming solutions, the potential for growth for this industry in the near future is great.  Gaming consoles, cell phones, and other hand-held devices also adds to the growth of the gaming industry.

Gaming as an industry offers about a dozen career options.  The industry combines art and computer programming. Whereas only a few people were involved to develop a computer game earlier, now the procedure has become more complex and large teams are involved to develop a particular game.  There are examples of specialized production houses who do some specific jobs like game programming, motion capture, or animation.  In some countries there is a huge shortage of skilled manpower for this industry.  In many countries, game development or game design is still not considered as a career option, and there are very few academies who can boast of qualified teachers or the required infrastructure to teach game development.  Given the above, it can be safely said that if someone graduates from a good game design school and learn the tricks properly, he will land a good job and will do well in the industry.

Game design schools offer course in two areas.  The first one is game art which teaches the student to make models, animation, and the environment that we see in a game.  The second one is game programming.  Students with artistic bend of mind can opt for game art, whereas students who want to excel in programming or software professionals with a love for gaming can opt for game programming courses.

To be successful in game the development industry, the first thing that someone must have in him is love for games.  If someone is considering joining an animation school or a game design school for a game art course, he should consider whether animation films or games attract him more.  A good course in 3D animation can lead the student to a successful career in gaming companies, and again there are examples of candidates going through game art courses and finally choosing to work for 3D animation companies.
